The website, "africannewsupdates.com" is a fake news website. It carries a lot of sensationalist domestic stories and strong political hyperbole.  There are a lot of fake political stories that are designed to be clickbait. This site appears to have political and financial interests.

So like all of you, I was shocked at the Sunday Times story about a multiracial couple abused online by racists. The story came across my feed looking like this:


Those are very terrible and racist comments and not common in our society anymore. Also, I had seen the name somewhere before.... so in a strong atmosphere of manufactured perception our team decided to do a bit of investigating. There were a couple of "warning" tells that made us suspicious of the poster. The first was his name change.  Why change his name?

Also, why the very strange choice is interest that this poster has. Not the type of interests you would see from a backwards racist.

His account is also very new.... seems to have been created just before the 2012 L...

This is an in depthy report from the Atlantic Council which details how the Kremlin is funding and astroturfing separatists, racist, hate, nationalist and other such related groups where they have geopolitical interests. This is not unlike what we saw the Koch Brothers  doing when they astroturfed the Tea Party.

This type of asymmetrical information warfare is highly effective and we can see its results in Brexit, Trumps elections, and the rise of Frances, Francois Fillon.

The following story from NPR.ORG  talks about  the lack of ability for the youth to critically think. However, it should be stressed, it is not just the youth that suffer from this, the generation before them taught them to put belief and faith ahead of critical thinking and skepticism.

If the children are the future, the future might be very ill-informed.
